'Once' Couple's Oscar-Gilded Romance Ends In... →
Aww, man…
karinalongworth:
They stole America’s hearts, an Oscar and no less than $9 million of box-office loot. Less than a year later, star-crossed Once songwriters/lovers Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová are done for.

Ricky Gervais was right
The full list of Oscar noms can be found here.
All in all, I did okay with my predictions; mainly I made two mistakes: underestimating the Acadamy’s love for Holocaust dramas, and overestimating their willingness to go outside the box with love for “The Dark Knight.” I really thought the momentum was there for some top noms for Batman, but in almost every category, “The...

Probably by the time you read this, the Acadamy Award Nominations will have been announced, so I thought I may as well lock in my predictions just for fun. For the record, these are predictions, not preferences, based on buzz I’ve been hearing and reading. I haven’t seen many (most) of the major releases this year. My early picks for wins are marked *.

“The Curious Case of Forrest Gump” from Funny or Die
Hey, I liked “Benjamin Button.” Even though I thought most of the first two hours were superficial and cold, the final scenes really got to me. I cried all the way home. (of course, I’ve been a little baby ever since my daughters were born)
The “Forrest Gump” rap is somehow totally accurate but...
Coast Guard video of the airbus crash landing in the Hudson River. The exact moment of impact happens off camera at about 2:00.

(P.S. if you haven’t checked out McCartney’s...
Invasion: The Byers
Every once in a while at LifeChurch.tv we do a series where nominated people are “Invaded” by a pastor and a camera crew, and we present an inspirational story from their lives. The subjects don’t have any idea that we’re doing it until the camera is on. This year I produced two pieces, including this one, where we had to figure out how to do a...
Invasion: Rosa
Another Invasion piece; I really liked this one. Go to LifeChurch.tv to see the whole series.

Here’s someone doing something interesting with Twitter for a change…
perpetua:
Christopher Weingarten will be reviewing 1,000 albums this year on Twitter. 140 characters, 10 point scale.
“Love Lockdown” by Kanye West
Kanye has always been one of those artists (like the Beastie Boys and Bjork) who serves as a magnet for great directors, and he really seems to appreciate the art of music video production. I didn’t know this one existed until I came across it on a Best of 2008 list. It’s a near-perfect interpretation of the song’s emotional tone. And...
